What I do and make is an offering as well as a practice, self-inquiry as well as prayer. Images, words and symbols initially laid down in the underlayer of the paintings and drawings are sometimes still visible through additional layers and glazes subsequently laid down, new ones appearing along the way. I invite the paintings to assist me in understanding, and decoding, awakening insight through a visual language, about the significance of things I may not yet realize. They often include images seen in meditation and symbols for elements in the natural world. I paint and write to summon the best that I can be, remember what I came here for, what I am to do here, and to bring in my part of the story within the mystery and the fragile intricacies that hold us all together. I create to say yes to the opportunity to matter and to join the others in the long history of our search for clues. I try to let my work be a way for my head to meet the ground in astonishment, gratitude and wonder, to support the upliftment of humanity, including myself.
