Annie Starling Sparks is a ceramicist and sculptor living on Orcas Island, where she grew up in a family of artists. Working in porcelain and encaustic, Annie finds her inspiration in the natural world, the movements and textures that take shape over the passing of time, beach combing, and in her gardening and meditation practices. Common themes in her work include the beauty of exhaustion, the seasonal interplay between the external and internal landscapes, and the transformations wrought by nature. Her sculptures are delicate and poetic— as if suspended in time. They invite the viewer to look closer and examine every bend, twist, and texture, bringing them into Annie’s perspective of the natural world.
