After obtaining a BFA in “everything but drawing and painting”, and mostly concentrating on sculpture, I switched gears and pursued photography and performance art in graduate school. That was in the early 80’s when at the time there were no teaching jobs in any field of art. I became a self-taught custom furniture maker, making pieces for various designers in the Seattle area. From there, I transitioned into full-time cabinetmaking to support my family. My wife and I moved our business to Orcas Island in 2009 and continued making cabinets for clients in Seattle and for local contractors until my retirement in 2022, when I handed the business over to my son. Since then, I have been busy rebuilding an old adobe house in New Mexico, rebuilding a vintage trailer, and gradually getting re-acquainted with my artistic roots. Currently I am making pieces that are “functional sculpture”, using locally sourced materials and other woods from around the world. During my creative process, I am always asking myself he question “what if…?” while translating what is in my mind’s eye into reality.
All proceeds from sales will be donated to the Pea Patch Community Campus.
